So what does this mean? While it is unique in so far as it explicitly recognizes indigenous to indigenous trade and it is in the context of an international agreement, it is a start and I can see more indigenous recognition happening because it is an expression of sovereignty and you know we can't get enough of that. Where to next? I can see more trade agreements including these types of clauses because hey, it is good for business, but ultimately we should have the confidence to have indigenous people sign trade agreements directly with each other. Our values, priorities and commitment to a sustainable future. Now that would be a true demonstration of sovereignty. Making FTA about the people and not just Big Business, makes sense to me.
